Oil changes should be done every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. The reason your oil needs to be changed is that after driving for so many miles, your oil in your car gets dirty and builds up gunk in the oil filter. You cannot really tell if oil is dirty or not by looking at it, so it is better to get the oil changed every 3,000 miles or every 3 months. When the oil is not changed, it builds up like gel and gets dirty causing the engine to fail eventually.

An oil change is just basically draining the old oil out, replacing the old oil filter, and then putting new oil into the car. Let the experienced and knowledgeable technicians at Advantek Automotive | Houston Auto Repair & Body Shop handle all your oil change and maintenance needs. Doing an oil change by yourself can be a messy job. Make sure you have some place to dump the old oil and also if you have never done an oil change before, make sure you read up on everything you need and how to do it properly.

A usual brake job includes replacing the brake linings (new disc brake pads and shoes), resurfacing the rotors and drums, adding new brake fluid, bleeding the system, and inspecting/replacing any additional damaged components. If rotors or drums are worn out or past safe limits, they cannot be resurfaced and have to be replaced. Leaky disc brake calipers, drum brake wheel cylinders or the master cylinder ought to be rebuilt or replaced.

Having your brakes done is a very important thing to do on any vehicle. Your brakes can go out at any time, so if you suspect that your brakes are starting to get worn out, either have your mechanic fix them or do it yourself. Having your brakes wear down can cause damage to other parts of your car, as well. Then you are going to have to fix more than just your brakes. By not fixing your brakes, you can injure yourself or other people as well. So, next time you are sitting in traffic and your brakes start making a squealing noise, then its time to take your car in and have the brakes looked at. Brake fluid should be changed at least once a year to keep it fresh and clean.

Transmission service at advantek auto | houston auto repair and body shop

A smooth running transmission is the heart of a car. If you are having any symptoms like hesitation, slipping gears, leaks, delay of power, shifting into gear or just no reverse. These could all be signs of a transmission problem. Our experienced technicians can tell you what might have happened by using a test called RCI Service. Remove, Check and Install service.

Having the proper amount of transmission fluid is essential to the normal operation of the transmission. Transmission fluid does three main things. It transmits power, acts as a heat exchanger, and lubricates. A transmission that is leaking can have an undesirable effect on any or all of these functions. Therefore, as soon as you detect a leak, it is important that you have the vehicle inspected to determine the source of the leak.

Many mechanics these days would rather replace and rebuild then to put in an entire new transmission. There are over 500 parts in a transmission that can be reused and it will be less expensive to go this route. If you are having any of these problems, do not hesitate to contact Advantek Automotive | Houston Auto Repair & Body Shop. The longer you drive, the worse the problem can get, and the more it will cost to fix. It may be something simple and hardly cost anything. Nevertheless, it is better to be safe than sorry.

To keep your transmission running smoothly and keep your seals soft, have your transmission fluid replaced following the schedule in your owner’s manual. Worn out fluid can result in rough shifting, accelerated wear, and even transmission failure.

The diagnostics of a cars engine is very complicated. Nothing really tells you when anything has gone wrong. There is a Check Engine light that pops on, but even this does not tell you exactly what the problem is. The only way to find out is to have your mechanic run an engine diagnostics test on your vehicle. There is even a company that has written a program that you can use through your computer to check the diagnostics of your vehicle. This is pretty amazing. Many people still prefer to have their mechanic check it over than to rely on what their computer might say.

There are many reasons to have a full diagnostics run on your car. With today’s vehicles being run by computers if anything goes wrong and a light will pop on. Take it to your mechanic unless you have gone to school yourself for this. However, if not, do not do it yourself. Simply unhooking your battery will mess up a computers diagnostics in a bad way. So, make sure you have a qualified, certified mechanic that you know and trust. He will be the one who is keeping your car running smoothly for years. If you are a do it your-selfer, you can get many diagnostic supplies at your local mechanic’s office as well. In addition, he can help you with any questions you may have. At Advantek Automotive | Houston Auto Repair & Body Shop, we possess state of the art diagnostic equipment and trained technicians to decipher the root cause of your car engine's issues.

To run an automobile there is a very complicated wiring system. There is no mechanic that can tell you what is wrong just by looking at it or hearing what is wrong. Even with the newest technology it is sometimes very hard to find out what is wrong with your car if it has to do with the wiring. Even the computers they hook them up to have a hard time getting right to the problem. When they disassemble the wiring, they have to make sure they put it right back the way it was. One little wire hooked up the wrong way will have it blowing a fuse or even something could blow up, causing serious injury.

The following will help extend the life of the electrical system:

  • Once a month clean off your battery and the connections. Also make sure the vents are not clogged up.
  • When buying a new battery, get the same kind and amps you had before.
  • When jumping your car do not use a car that is running. Use one that is shut off. One thing you must remember is to use one that is the same or lower voltage than yours.
  • Shut off anything in your car that will drain your battery of juice. Like your radio or stereo system. The air conditioning and heater. Unplug the cigarette lighter will help too.

Consider Advantek Automotive | Houston Auto Repair & Body Shop and let us do a complete check on it if you ever seem to have any problems with the wiring.

The job of the fuel system in your vehicle is to store and provide fuel to the cylinder chamber where it can be mixed with air, vaporized, and burned to generate energy, thus making your vehicle run. The fuel, which can be either gasoline or diesel, is stored in a fuel tank. A fuel pump draws the fuel from the tank through fuel lines and delivers it through a fuel filter to either a carburetor or fuel injector, next it is delivered to the cylinder chamber for combustion. That is how the fuel system works.

You must also remember to maintain the fuel system. Whenever you mix gasoline with heat and oxygen, you will have carbon. You must maintain the engine when this happens to stop the buildup that will happen when these three are mixed.

Remember to clean your throttle, fuel injectors, EGR Valve, oxygen sensors and your intake valves every year to make sure they run like brand new. Advantek Automotive | Houston Auto Repair & Body Shop has the necessary knowledge and state of the art equipment to handle these tasks. In addition, this gives you better gas mileage. Everyone knows these days with the price of gas; we have to do anything we can to get the best mileage. Copyright © 2012 Designed by  TEXIGNS
